Can I really call this a book club if it's just me? 🤔👀
Although I suppose it may technically become a club if you end up reading a book too because of me...
Basically, the purpose of this blog is for me to keep a record of every (or at least most) books that I read in 2021 and beyond. I believe that having an external force (e.g. a digital record) will serve as backup motivation in case my intrinsic motivation fails for some reason. Also, maybe my writing skills will improve as a result too 😉
Speaking of motivation, why on earth do I want to read one book per week?
The main reason is because I used to love reading as a kid. Like, love. As in, I finished the Twilight series in just under one month and the A Song of Ice and Fire series in just three months. After high school...actually, up until late 2019, it was quite rare for me to sit down and read a book for pure enjoyment. Oddly enough, I could spend hours upon hours on social media and YouTube, but it would take me a month to finish a small 300 page book...that is, if I even finished it!
As I've gotten older, I've realised how messed up that is. Granted, my feed is somewhat educational since I follow pages about society, news, and culture, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't mostly memes and cute animals 🙈
When I spend more of my time reading than I do on Instagram, I feel good. Actually no, I feel great.
So yeah, in 2021 I want to feel even better, even if it's at the expense of being in the loop.

The second reason is because reading makes me feel smarter since I am learning about new concepts in a bit more depth than I would if I was reading a blog post that I clicked on because the headline caught my attention.
The third reason is something that I kinda touched on in the first reason: I am wanting to keep up the momentum of cutting down my screen time in 2021. This year, I've managed to cut my screen time in half, with the exception of my spending the last two weeks of 2020 bingewatching The Crown.
Finally, I believe that reading is a great way to pick up the wisdom and mistakes of others. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said:
